Year 2009

12th February -  Madlenianum celebrated its Slava Three Holy Hierarchs. After the service, the employees met their numerous friends and artists who denoted the most successful productions of Madlenianum.

26th February - première of two operas by Gian Carlo Menotti in one evening. The operas The Telephone and The Medium, which were produced in cooperation with the Opera b. b. Zagreb, attracted a remarkable attention of the reviewers both in Zagreb and in Belgrade. It was estimated that it was the first regional cooperation of two opera houses after the decomposition of the ex Yugoslavia. The director of these operas was Nenad Glavan, and the conductor was maestro Vladimir Kranjcevic.

26th March - in the Small Hall of Madlenianum there was organized a public reading of stories written by four eminent Serbian writers: Goran Petrovic, Ljubica Arsic, Ana Vuckovic and Aleksandar Gatalica. A programme different from all others in the city, and the fact that the audience had an opportunity to see and hear the writers in live, attracted unexpectedly large number of visitors, so that all the seats were filled, as well as all the auxiliary chairs that were found in the Small Stage.

12th April - première of the drama The Scent of Rain in the Balkans  by Gordana Kuic. The largest drama première of Madlenianum Opera and Theatre in this season gathered the team of the most famous actors at present. If we add to this a permanent popularity of the novel on basis of which the dramatization was made, a success could have been rightfully expected. All showings of the drama The Scent of Rain in the Balkans  are sold out till the end of the season 2008/2009.

28th April - the guest appearance of Vladeta Jerotic in Madlenianum. The lectures that have already become traditional were continued in the largest space of Madlenianum, in the Large Hall, where all the seats were filled this time as well.

9th May – the European Opera Days were celebrated with a number of activities in Madlenianum Opera and Theatre, as well as in the street Knez Mihailova, where, at the box office of Madlenianum, visitors had an opportunity to buy tickets for Madam Butterfly and La Traviata at 50% discount, to make their own photos in panels with face cutouts in the manner of old photo shops, or to enjoy at the small square in front of Madlenianum in the sound of the most beautiful operatic arias.

14th May - in Bel Etage Gordana Kuic appeared for the first time in public after many years. With the participation of the reviewer Vasa Pavkovic, and Dejan Djurovic, Gordana Kuic addressed numerous readers and spoke on the way her novel, as well as the  drama performed in Madlenianum, were created.

27th May – in the exchange programme between Madlenianum and HNK (Croatian National Theatre) Varazdin, the performance Vucjak by Miroslav Krleza in production of HNK Varazdin had its guest appearance in Madlenianum. Belgrade reviewers considered the event as a return of Krleza to Belgrade stages.

4th June – mono opera The Diary of Anne Frank, in the production of Madlenianum, had its guest appearance on the stage of HNK Varazdin. Varazdin theatre reviewers evaluated this performance as great repertoire refreshment.
