Year 2007

26th January: Opening of the library "Gorjan Korunoski". In the life of every institution, especially an artistic one, a moment comes when the archive and documentation on its operation become so extensive that a need appears to set up a library. In the year when it celebrates the tenth anniversary of its foundation, Opera and Theatre Madlenianum found itself on such a turning point  that resulted with an opening of Madlenianum Library.

16th, 17th and 18th February: Opera and Theatre Madlenianum joined other European cities in celebration of IV centuries of opera. Over 3500 interested visitors accepted Madlenianum''s invitation and, during the three days of the “open doors” manifestation, participated in free activities organized for the European Opera Days.

Some 50 representatives of European operas and festivals, and about ten largest opera houses of Balkan countries that are not the members of RESEO, took part in this manifestation. It should be noted that this is the first ever session in one of the countries – members from the territory of Southeast Europe.

18th October: In Madlenianum there was the first première of the musical Les Misérables in the history of this house. Boublil’s and Schönberg’s musical Les Misérables has been the largest production and marketing project in the house Madlenianum ever since its foundation. The musical was performed within 39th BEMUS and has received the best reviews so far.

25th December: The celebration of 10 years from the foundation. When in the year 1997 a group of enthusiasts, headed by Madlena Zepter,  started with the foundation of the Chamber Opera Madlenianum, the impossible was the only realistic thing they could ask for. In that gloomy and sad year to contemplate an Opera in Belgrade was an utterly impossible idea. However, the founders succeeded and Belgrade was the first city in the Balkans to get a private Opera. Belgrade has got it, primarily, because its people deserve it; because this city must not become only a memory of a metropolis.

Ten years later, Madlenianum completed its development and the establishment of its repertoire policy. Now, Madlenianum is an opera, but also a theatre and a musical. As a place adjusted to the spirit of time, Madlenianum becomes a gathering venue of artistic spirits – a genuine Metropolis of spirit. At the celebration of 10th anniversary the persons who have mostly contributed to the development of Madlenianum received  jubilee awards.
